Choosing a Triton Type 3 Silt Curtain
Which type of Turbidity Curtain do you need? Choosing a type 3 turbidity barrier is dependent on many different factors, including how fast the water is moving, how much silt/turbidity is in the area, and the duration of your project.
Triton Type 3 DOT Contractor Models
A favorite for DOT sites, roads, and areas around DOT projects. (18 oz. PVC with a Filter Panel)
Triton Type 3 Heavy Duty (HD) Curtain Models
One of the strongest curtains available. These models are great for any location with a higher current, frequent waves, or high winds.
(22 oz. PVC with Dual Tension Cables)
Permeable curtains are used in areas dealing with higher pressure or currents. Filter fabrics help alleviate pressure by allowing water to flow and filter through the curtain.

Type 3 Turbidity Barrier Accessories
Anchor Kits: Anchoring impacts the success of your project. Without proper anchoring, your Type III Silt Barrier will fail.
Tow Bridles: Tow Bridles help distribute weight and prevent damage during deployment and adjustment.
Accessories are an important component to the installation of any silt curtain or barrier. Click the link above to Learn more about these Type III Turbidity Curtain accessories, their specs, and uses. View our Ground Anchor Installation and Silt Curtain Anchoring Instructions.
Importance of Anchoring: Anchoring and anchor kits are one of the most important accessories for turbidity curtains in sites dealing with moving currents, waves, tides, or other site factors. Having the right anchor pattern, installation design, and anchors can significantly influence, reduce, and redistribute loads placed on your barrier. Contact our technical team (1-772-646-0597) for more information regarding anchor placement and use with your type III silt barrier.
Fabric and Component Considerations for Turbidity Barriers in Salt Water
Salt Water: When using a Triton type 3 turbidity barrier in salt water, special consideration should be given to the tension cables and connectors. Standard type 3 silt barriers come with galvanized steel components; however we recommend stainless steel or zinc anode saltwater or corrosive environments. These additions help prevent corrosion and increase the life span and performance of your barrier.
Salt Water and Short Term Projects: If your project is short term, standard galvanized cables and components can be used for a period up to 12 months. Contact our team for more information regarding sal twater options.
Fabric: Alternative fabrics are also available for extended deployment in areas with high pH levels, high or low temperatures, or in areas where chemicals are present.
Additional Features for Triton Turbidity Curtains

- Curtain Skirt: The curtain skirt is ballasted to hang vertical in the water by a minimum ballast chain weighing 1.5 lbs. per foot.
- Section Connectors: Section connectors will feature either a universal bulk connector or a top tension plate. Universal connectors are ideal for type III silt barriers in areas with high flows and pressure.
- Furling/Reefing Lines: When equipped with furling lines, these turbidity barriers can be used for multiple deployments.
